You won't be seeing this much anymore. The Broome County Stop-DWI Holiday Classic basketball tournament will no longer feature national teams with numerous Division I kids playing. Financially, the tournament could not sustain itself with the poor attendance that it has been receiving. Not even having the local division as the feature game could increase attendance. Which is a shame, because if the fans of the local schools won't support their teams there is no way to subsidize the national teams to come here and play.
So we all lose. The local kids lose the chance to play on a bigger stage, the Stop-DWI organization loses a valuable national forum, and we the fans lose a chance to see some of the kids who will one day be in the NBA. It was a helluva run while it lasted, and the promoters at the Stop-DWI program should be applauded. Thanks for the ride......
